Born with Flowers in My Hair

Ask me anything   Bruneian in Shanghai. Makeup. Nails. Clothes. Books. TV.

Pink nails with white polka dots. Kinda too girlie and cute for me. For this I used Sephora 泡泡粉色. Haha, some of the labels for the Sephora products in Shanghai have English labels, some don’t. And the white is some dotting polish I got from Accesorize back when I did my internship in London. I wouldn’t recommend polish from there, but the dotting bottle is really convenient. The white polish ran even though I gave it time to dry off before putting on Seche Vite top coat.

And the adorable Minnie Mouse clicky pen I got from Tokyo Disneyland! The nails totally remind me of Minnie.

I saw this DIY post to store your rings somewhere I can’t remember and gave it a try. I bought a couple of felt online in a couple of colours, cut them to fit the Make Up Forever box I’m reusing. I rolled the felt and fastened them up with bobby pins (I’ll sew them up when I get the chance, they stay just fine as is right now. So, yeah, I’ll sew them up never).

They fit well for my chunkier rings and the box is just perfect with the clear cover.

The felt I bought from taobao.com were 3mm in thickness, I wasn’t sure which thickness would roll up and hold the rings up better, so I just went with the middle. I did get like seven pieces of 30cmx30cm. They were only B$0.50 a piece and the shipping was B$1.20. So according to me, might as well get more than I need to justify the shipping cost, haha.

Did this simple dot pattern. I just love how the Seche Vite top coat brings out the pop to nail art.

I used Sephora Reglisse as black base and dotted with China Glaze Sneaker Head (which is more pink than the picture shows).

I Hate It When

2. I go in the make up store and the salesperson follows closely behind like a dog, and gives five minutes description to any product I so happen to even linger on for a bit. All the time in Shanghai.

I am addicted to American TV series, I admit. It is insane the amount of time I spend watching them on my laptop. I finished off the new releases for the week (I am that efficient) so I started watching The Mindy Project. I’m a fan of Mindy Kaling from her role in The Office, I would love to be that girl in my office, haha.
I love this new series. She’s really funny and witty, hands down my favourite female character on TV right now. I didn’t watch this when it first showed though, I’m not a fan of the lead character holding the same first name as the actor, but I should really change that (I do enjoy watching Whitney, and the then Drew Carey Show).
The guest stars are an attraction, there should be a drinking game where everytime a famous comedian goes on screen, we all take a shot. Ed Helms and Seth Myers to name drop a bit.
So watch this show if you haven’t already!
For those who don’t watch from an actual television like me (poor college life), I watch it for free from btvguide.com. This website works when I’m back in Brunei, while I’m in Shanghai, and especially fast in Singapore.

My first time using those nail art brushes. I definitely need to get used to it. I didn’t have a design in mind and ended up with explosive flowers, haha. Oh, and a touch of crystal for a finished look.

Colours in Mood in light blue, H&M in Blue My Mind and Topshop in Stolen Sapphire. With Etude House Sunshine Whitener as base coat and Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat (damn, it’s fast).

I’m horrible with my right hand, so I just left my left hand plain. Maybe all those nail artists that paint their own nails do that too. Never see them post pictures of both hands most of the time.

From OPI’s Mariah featuring Liquid Sand minis in The Impossible (matte fuschia) and Stay the Night (matte black).
The liquid sand effect is so pretty, which I couldn’t properly capture on my camera phone.
I applied OPI’s Original Nail Envy as a base coat and then three coats of the polish (two was NOT enough to get the matte glitter effect).

Today I’m using The Bronze of Champions kit by Benefit which I got last week at Sephora in Singapore. It retails for SGD$50. I already had the highlighter and a sample size mascara (same size as the one in the set) individually, but I decided to give it a try (and I just can’t resist bronzing kits!)

I love bronzing and looking tanned (totally opposite to other Asians, haha), so that’s why I got this bronzing kit.

I was contemplating whether to get the full sized mascara before, but I already have tons of mascara which aren’t even half used. But if I were to get another full sized one, Benefit’s They’re Real would be a no brainer, that product is freaking amazing. It lengthens like crazy and it doesn’t clump up. I love it.

The lip gloss that came with it, in Ultra Plush Hoola, is disappointing. It’s very sheer, and it didn’t look like it had any colour when I applied it on my lips. Or are my lips already brown? *shrugs* I would give this one a miss unless you’re looking for a slightly tinted clear lip gloss.

I’m leaving Singapore tomorrow, so I won’t be able to get a lot of brands like Urban Decay, Too Faced, Nars, and even The Body Shop (!!!) anymore. Sigh.

Anyway, I hope people like my makeup of the day post!

Products that came in Benefit’s The Bronze of Champions kit:
/Hoola bronzing powder
/Ultra Plush Hoola Lip Gloss
/Watt’s Up Soft Focus Highlighter for Face
/Creamless Cream Shadow
/Longwear Powder Shadow
/They’re Real Mascara

My makeup for the day (actually, just the night, I woke up pretty late today).

I experimented a little by using the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil as a base over my entire eyelids. The whole look is very shimmery despite using the matte Werewolf eyeshadow.

Looking at the picture I probably didn’t do enough contouring and colour for my cheeks, but in reality I do have a darker complexion and the Mineral powder which I used isn’t the best colour for me as a contouring colour and I prefer my blush more subtle. The mineral powder I usually use as a finishing powder but I didn’t want to look too dark today because the eyes were pretty dark already.

I did a swatch of the BB Cream I used. The cream goes on a light colour, but after it oxides after a few minutes, it darkens, which is lovely because BB creams from Korea usually come in one or two shades only, and I’m always looking for a darker shade because I love being under the sun.

Hope you guys like reading about my makeup for the day!

Products I used:
/Skinfood Pore Primer (I think that’s what it’s called, I don’t read Korean)
/The Body Shop Skin Primer Moisturise It
/Too Faced Shadow Insurance Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer
/Hanskin Control Skin BB Cream
/Nature Republic Photoshot 3D Concealer
/Maybelline Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Powder Foundation in Pure Beige Medium 2
/Bobbi Brown Blush in Tawny 2
/Benefit Watt’s Up! Highlighter
/MAC Lightful Foundation Compact in NC25
/Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Uzi
/K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner 1 Day Tattoo
/Skinfood Choco Powder Eyebrow Wood Pencil
/The Body Shop Brow & Lash Gel
/Benefit They’re Real! Mascara
/Laneíge Eyeliner (I think, the label is rubbed clean off, hehe, been using this one the most)
/Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Pearl 205 Champagne on Ice
/Tarte for True Blood Collector’s Palette in Fairy, Bayou and Werewolf

For Chinese new year! 3d nail sticker from L’oreal. My first time using these stickers, surprisingly really easy to use and they don’t look too obvious as stick-ons.
But they are really bright so next time I’ll just be using them as accents on a few finger nails.
I bought the two different sets from Guardian Singapore, SGD 17.90 each. Pretty pricey. In my opinion it is worth it only if you use them as accents and not on all your nails at once.

My haul from Sasa today. I bought the same eyeliner from Japan before, I really liked it but I forgot to put the cap back on and it dried out. Thank goodness I don’t have to go back all the way to Tokyo for it.
